A Catch Up with Pippa: The Life of an Instructor

Pippa completed her 6 week course in Big White in winter 2015/2016 and has successfully worked as an instructor for winter 2016/2017. We caught up with Pippa to find out how she's getting on after her season of being an instructor.

What made you book with Snow rehab to become an instructor?

The helpfulness of staff and prompt replys, also their cat skiing offer and the perks of 2 mountains in one package

How do you feel the Snow Rehab courses set you up for working as an instructor?

Was awesome doing it with Snow Rehab as my training was taken by my future colleagues which was very handy when applying for jobs as they knew who you were and also provided many connections and help for other things like accommodation etc

What was your best memory throughout your Snow Rehab experience?

My best memory would have to be the friendships I made as well as the cat skiing at Revelstoke had nothing like it since!!!

How did you find your first season working as an instructor? Best memories/experiences?

Loved it! Best decision yet to become an instructor! So many laughs from socialising out of work to always having a laugh at work. There was never a boring moment, my favourite memory would be seeing a kid book lessons with me for the week and seeing her go from a complete beginner to snowboarding blue and some black runs!

You completed your training with us in Big White and worked there as an instructor last season. What made you fall in love with Biggie. Favourite runs? Apr
ès-ski?

Who can't fall in love with Biggie!! People are so friendly and helpful it's definitely a winter wonderland! I mainly chose Biggie when doing Snow Rehab because of the terrain it's very varied you get a bit of everything!

Debunk a common misconception about life as an instructor

Life as instructor is defiantly what you make it! Never a dull moment!

Would you recommend a Snow Rehab course to someone who was interested in becoming an instructor? Why?

Snow Rehab hands down is so helpful I recommend it to anyone thinking of going down the instructor path they really do go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

Tell us about the process of being hired! How long did it takes/how did you feel when you got hired?

Getting hired was easy!! Definitely helped doing the course at Big White the previous season as they already knew who I was and the coaches were able to recommend me which also helped with my application. I applied in April through email to Big White ski and board school and then had a Skype interview (which was really easy was like talking to a friend...due to already knowing them) I knew by may that I was successful! The feeling when I was hired was the best!!!!
